Why now

The apprenticeship is being automated away.

Juniors used to learn judgement from hundreds of repetitions of routine work, with a senior's review notes pointing out what they missed. Those repetitions are the first things AI and offshoring take over.

Firms are cutting the repetitions that build judgement while raising the level of judgement they expect from juniors. Fieldwork is our attempt to rebuild those repetitions.

Every client file is built on consistent books: each document agrees with every other, and each case has a known right answer to grade against. The AI plays the people. It does not invent the facts.

A working prototype of Level 1 (prepayments): one invented client, a planted issue, a scripted senior and a feedback screen.

Testing with early-career accountants and experienced auditors, to find out whether the work feels real and whether reviewers find the results informative.

Next

An AI senior who challenges free-text conclusions, grading against the known answer, and further levels.

Unproven

We don't yet know whether simulated practice reduces how much supervision a junior needs. Finding that out is the point of the work.
